It’s North of the Border again on Friday March 11 as the Fightzone cameras head to Aberdeen’s Beach Ballroom for a night of boxing topped by the very talented Dean Sutherland on a Fight Academy card in association with Kynoch Boxing Promotions.

Aberdeen lad Sutherland is someone who’s creating a lot of noise in the game with some very impressive performances. Currently 12-0 (4), the 23-year-old has looked absolutely mustard in his last two fights claiming two belts (WBO Youth and WBC International Silver Welterweight titles) with stoppages of Mexico’s Jose Antonio Delgado Velazquez 10-2 (2) and Italy’s Michele Esposito 18-5-1 (6).

A regular on Fightzone – this will be Dean’s third appearance – the Scot has all the hallmarks of a nailed-on future star in the sport, something that manager Sam Kynoch is certain of.

The rest of the bill is made up of more emerging Scottish talent getting a chance to shine on the Fightzone platform, including Calvin McCord. The 25-year-old picked up the Scottish Lightweight Title in just his sixth fight in an up-and-down exciting encounter with Marek Laskowski in 2019 that saw both men hitting the canvas before McCord finally got on top with an eighth round stoppage. Always in entertaining fights, Calvin will be looking to make it to double figures undefeated on the Aberdeen bill before getting involved in further title fights in 2022.

Also appearing on the show are Dingwall’s Ben Bartlett 3-0; Arbroath’s Corey McCulloch 4-1-1; Ryan Gall from Dundee 3-1, as well as Irishman Edward Donovan from Limerick 2-0.

“Dean’s absolutely flying and he’s starting to get the opponents out of there with two exciting stoppages in his last two fights,” said Kynoch. “He’s looking good, he’s been working hard in the gym and he’s very popular up in Aberdeen. So it’s going to be another great night with a brilliant atmosphere.

“Getting him in for the British Title [currently held by Nottingham’s Ekow Essuman] would be good, but we’ll keep building up his rankings with the WBC and the plan is to ultimately get him in line to become a world champion. Any titles he picks up while getting there are additional to that ultimate goal. If the British Title comes up in the meantime then so be it.

“I’m sure Dean is going to look very impressive on this show and he really is a terrific talent for Fightzone viewers to follow on his journey to the top. The rest of the card is going to be brilliant entertainment too. It’s going to be great to have Calvin McCord back in action after a frustrating time with injuries. He’s 9-0 and another Scottish fighter that is going to go on and achieve big things, so it’s also great for Fightzone to be showcasing his talent.”
