Undisputed lightweight champion George ‘Ferocious’ Kambosos Jr 20-0 (10) is hoping to have an opponent secured by the end of the month for his first world title defence.

The 28-year-old Sydneysider shocked the world when he wrested the WBA, WBO, IBF and WBC Franchise title from previously unbeaten Teofimo ‘The Takeover’ Lopez 16-1 (12) at New York’s famed Madison Square Garden in November.

The two names in the mix to face Kambosos next are former multi-weight world champion Vasiliy Lomachenko 16-2 (11) and WBC titleholder Devin ‘The Dream’ Haney 27-0 (15).

Kambosos has made it clear he wants his first defence to take place in a stadium in his home country of Australia.

“I don’t have a preference on which I want to fight, I would fight them both on the same night if I had to,” Kambosos told AAP.

“It’s about who comes in with the better offer. The ball is in their court to step up to the table and show how much they want this fight.

“I’ve got all the belts and all the jewels so they have got to travel here.”

Team Kambosos are looking to fight in late May or possibly the Queen’s Birthday weekend in June with venues in both Sydney and Melbourne being considered.

“Marvel Stadium is perfect and Rod Laver is beautiful but it’s a little bit too small for a mega fight,” Kambosos said.

Both of those venues are in Melbourne. There could be a question mark over Marvel Stadium’s availability with the venue regularly hosting Australian Rules Football games on Sundays, the day the fight would have to take place to be broadcast in the United States on a Saturday night.

“Then in Sydney, there’s ANZ Stadium or the SCG. I’ve envisioned that I’ll fight in all these stadiums by the time I do eventually hang them up,” Kambosos said.

“It’s all moving parts and I know both states want it. Whichever state misses out, I’m only 28 and I’m here to reign for a long time.

“So if they don’t get the first defence then they’ll get the second defence. This is going to be a long reign.”

Some pundits have wondered why Kambosos doesn’t take a tune-up fight before jumping into the fire, but he insist he doesn’t need one.

“I’m in great condition, I don’t need one,” he said.

“I’m not here to fool the Australian public. Even this last year they have been fooled and ripped off enough with certain fights.

“I’ve brought these belts back and I’m the hottest name in the boxing world.

“I’ve reached the top of the mountain and now there’s another mountain to climb.”

Over the weekend American Haney, 23, said he was ready to fight Kambosos on the champion’s terms.

“Right now it’s on George and his team to determine what’s next,” Haney said. “At the end of the day, I agreed to all of their terms, whether it was the travel or the vaccine. So anything that they throw at me, I’m ready to do it.

“This is a dream of mine to become undisputed champion. They can say what they want, and I price myself out, and did this and that, but that’s not the truth. I’m ready to make the people happy and ready to do it next.”
