Promoter Eddie Hearn says there is zero chance of WBC heavyweight champion Tyson Fury 31-0-1 (22) knocking out mandatory challenger Dillian Whyte 28-2 (19).
The Matchroom Boxing boss went even further, stating that if a knockout does occur, it will be the reigning champion on the deck.
“[Whyte] won’t be KO’d,” Hearn told DAZN. “Fury in my opinion doesn’t carry the power to take Dillian Whyte out. I believe actually when they trade left hooks Tyson Fury will go to sleep and he will go to sleep in round eleven.”
Whyte’s trainer Xavier Miller believes his charge is too versatile for anything Fury brings to the ring.
“It will be interesting because he hasn’t faced anything quite like Dillian Whyte,” Miller told The Daily Star. “Whyte can do a lot of different things in the ring, he is very versatile; aggressive, power in both hands, good counter puncher, good body puncher, so Tyson would have a lot to deal with.
“At the same time Tyson’s very tall, can box at long range. It’s a fight I’ve always wanted for Dillian ever since I became head trainer.
“The fight makes sense to be in the UK, you know, you want the British fans to get a chance to see the historic fight, this will be a historic moment for Dillian. He hasn’t boxed for a world title yet. So, of course, you’d like to do that at home.
“If you’ve got to travel, you’ve got to travel, that’s just the way it is, but ideally our first choice is a massive stadium fight in the UK.”
Meanwhile, Fury has revealed he issued a warning to Whyte about his social media postings.
“I did tell him on Instagram a few months ago, every time you call me a bad name your percentage will go down. He didn’t call me many bad names after that. That’s why he went quiet. He did go quiet when I did tell him that,” Fury told Queensberry Promotions.
Fury’s co-promoters Frank Warren and Bob Arum won the purse bid to host the fight with a bid of more than $41 million. The money set to be split 80-20 in favour of the champion. Fury is set to receive $29,538,000 while Whyte will pocket $7,384,500. The winner will also receive a 10% bonus, around $4 million.
“I think 20 percent for him is more than fair. He could get a possible [$11 million] if he beats me,” Fury continued.
“That there compared to his last fight when he got £250,000, that’s a lot of money. That’s seven times more than I got to fight Wladimir Klitschko. I was like ten times bigger than he was on that stage, so he’s got to be very, very thankful to me.
“If I was him I’d be sending me gifts and stuff through the post. I think he thinks everybody owes him something, I’m not sure why or what he’s done to think that. We’ll find out on the night, he can’t run away in the ring.”
