Features of Proban Cotton:
This SFI racing fire suit is made from Proban cotton, which is a fantastic alternative to Nomex. Developed in the 1950s, Proban (PROBAN) is a fire-retardant chemical that can be applied to cotton and other cellulosic fabrics. In the event of exposure to fire, Proban cotton decomposes as it burns, forcing fire damage into a localized charred section that serves as a barrier.
Proban has no afterglow, does not smolder, and does not allow the spread of fire outside of the immediately affected area, greatly reducing the risk of injury. Another benefit of Proban is that it does not affect the physical properties of the fabric that it is applied to, as there is no chemical reaction between the two elements.
Proban fabrics are used for protective purposes in industrial, military, civilian, and racing applications, and have developed a proven reputation as a dependable fire retardant material.
Usage: Recommended for use in competitive auto racing. Also meets the requirements for many kart racing organizations, but may not have the same level of abrasion resistance as a karting-specific suit.
