All of the talking stops and the match up for the jewels in the Light Welterweight division begins. Live on Sky Sports in the UK, undisputed champion Josh Taylor faces Jack Catterall in a huge Scotland v England clash. Talks of a Terence Crawford fight up at welterweight have already began for Taylor, but will not be seeing this fight as an easy tick over. At least he shouldn’t be.

Is Catterall at world level?
Having never fought anywhere near the levels of Taylor, the main talking point is just how good is Jack Catterall?
Although maintaining a perfect unbeaten record in 26 bouts at, this is a big step up for El Gato. Catteralls most notable win is beating a tricky Tyrone Nurse for the British title back in 2017. The common opponent between the two is the pairs British rival Ohara Davies. Catterall beat Davies by points decision over 12. Taylor more impressively stopped him inside 7 rounds. Catterall has been chasing the titles since 2019 as WBO mandatory and will be physically and mentally ready when the first bell rings. Catterall may show he is ready for world level, the issue is Taylor is one of the world’s elite.
How will the crowd affect the pair?
A sold out crowd at the Glasgow Hydro will be there to witness a Taylor homecoming. With tensions already boiling over at the weigh in this week, it is expected to be a raucous atmosphere. Certainly in Taylor’s favour! Catterall has stepped into the lion’s den before hand away from home against Tyrone Mckenna. Top of the bill against the nations favourite will surely surpass that however. Taylor will be expected to keep his cool to beat the underdog, but that’s easier said than done. Especially as he has not returned to fight at home since 2019.
How will the styles match up?
2 tricky southpaws should make for a few cagey opening rounds. Due to the crowd and what’s on the line for both fighters, it will catch fire at some point. Taylor will look to impose his jab early as the taller fighter by a couple of inches. Catterall may rely on the Manchester favourites- body shots. He is a notably good body puncher, getting inside against Taylor will be tougher than ever before.
Prediction?
Taylor- backed by the hometown crowd- to win by stoppage 8-12 rounds. Experience at world level is key to this, however Catterall will show he is worthy of a shot at the titles.
